SSA Newsletter A bi-yearly Progress update June 2026 | Study Abroad Michelle Durán CEO & Director of Academic Affairs SSA Education Abroad June Newsletter A Mid-Year Update from SSA Education
As we welcome Women’s History Month, I’m filled with deep pride and gratitude for the women who have shaped education and countless other fields. As CEO of SSA Education Abroad, and as a woman in this sector, I recognize both the challenges and the victories that define our path.
At SSA Education Abroad, empowerment is intentional. Our programs are designed to spotlight women’s achievements worldwide, helping students engage with diverse perspectives and understand the powerful impact women have made across societies.
What we integrate into our programs:
Educational Content & Courses: Gender studies, women’s history, feminist literature, and works by influential Spanish women, highlighting global and local feminist movements.
Partnerships with Women’s Organizations: Collaborations with groups like Fakali and Asocación Amiga, plus internships and volunteer roles that strengthen understanding of women’s rights in Spain.
Cultural & Educational Events: Participation in 8M marches, Diversity & Inclusion Week, talks, and activities centered on feminist dialogue.
Safety & Awareness Guidance: Orientation sessions focused on navigating life abroad as a woman, handling street harassment, learning about local organizations, and staying safe.
Female Role Models: Showcasing inspiring women through curated materials, books, podcasts, music, and more.
Supportive Community: A network that helps students learn from one another, grow, and find solidarity.
Resources & Support Systems: Practical tools, official guides, and culturally relevant advice on dealing with sexist violence and navigating support networks.
Empowerment Through Reflection: Activities that invite students to reflect on gender, equality, and women’s impact in society.
Female leadership drives SSA Education Abroad every day. Most of our administrative team consists of talented women, all our Regional Directors are women, and as CEO, I’m proud to uphold and model that leadership. This commitment doesn’t just shape our workplace, it inspires our students and contributes to a broader global example.
Our work continues. As we honor this month, let’s stay committed to learning, advocating, and uplifting women everywhere. Let’s ensure they have the space, support, and recognition they deserve.
I invite you to reflect with me on how far we’ve come and the work still ahead. Let’s celebrate the extraordinary women in our lives, this month and every day.
Warm regards,
Women have transformed the study abroad field through vision, leadership, and dedication. From educators to administrators, women have shaped programs that open minds, expand horizons, and build global citizens who value equality and understanding. Their influence isn’t just important, it’s transformative.
