This May, SSA celebrates new milestones in global learning—from launching programs in Spain and Panama to advancing cross-cultural collaboration. Dive into the latest updates, student stories, and important deadlines as we continue shaping impactful international experiences.

Industry News and Updates

  • Student Exchange Programs
Student exchange programs are evolving to combine classroom learning with hands-on experiences, as UNESCO and the World Economic Forum note that most new jobs require cross-cultural collaboration skills. This shift emphasizes programs that build teamwork, global competencies, and positive community impact.
  • Hybrid Educational Models Gaining Traction
Modern educational programs increasingly blend formal academics with supervised internships and service-learning to develop both technical expertise and essential intercultural communication skills, according to research.
  • Heightened Scrutiny on International Students in the U.S.
NAFSA reports over 1,600 international students have faced visa revocations or SEVIS terminations since mid-March ’25, affecting students across all academic levels and institution types. The lack of transparency has prompted education associations to urge Congressional intervention to ensure fair treatment of international students.
  • Spain’s Education System: A Blend of Tradition and Innovation
Spain offers an education system that balances historic academic traditions with modern teaching approaches, making it an attractive destination for international students seeking quality programs in a culturally rich environment, according to Times Now News.

We are grateful to all attendees for their insight and continued collaboration. Site Visit

Student Highlights

  • Clinical Rotations in Spain: First-Hand Surgical Experience
A current student in Seville is completing her clinical internship in surgery at Hospital Sagrado Corazón, participating in surgical procedures and multidisciplinary care. This placement builds both technical competencies and intercultural skills in patient care. Student Tulip recently took over our social media channels to share her experience. See Tulip’s takeover on Instagram documenting her experience. Nursing and Healthcare program
  • Student Spotlight: Practicum in Education
We proudly feature Daniela Rivas’ story, an alumna of our Practicum in Education program in Seville. Her experience in a bilingual setting refined her teaching strategies, built cross-cultural communication skills, and deepened her understanding of inclusive education. “This experience helped me grow not only as a teacher, but as a person,” shares Daniela. SSA Program Updates

  • Social Impact Through Art – Puerto Rico
In January, SSA partnered with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for a service-learning program in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Students collaborated with MAVI and the Bayamón Art Museum to design inclusive art workshops for youth with disabilities. This exemplifies how experiential learning can promote equity, empathy, and cross-cultural dialogue.

  • New Summer Program: Santiago de Compostela
SSA proudly launches a new study abroad opportunity in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Offering courses in Spanish language, literature, and heritage studies, the program includes immersive excursions and the chance to walk part of the Camino de Santiago, connecting language learning with cultural understanding.
